Privacy Policy

Introduction

uMate (bundle ID ai.umate.ime) is a keyboard and voice-input app. Typing and on-device speech do not require a uMate account.

This policy describes current software behavior. Snippets sync through iCloud when the Snippets switch is on (default on). Pasteboard captures stay on this device.

Microphone audio

uMate records only after you tap Record. Turning Voice Input on prepares capture; it does not keep a file until Record starts.

Audio stays in the Host app container on this device. The keyboard extension cannot use the microphone. uMate does not upload audio.

Transcripts

Recognition uses Apple on-device speech. Final text can appear in History.

When iCloud is available, preferred History transcripts can sync through your iCloud account (iCloud.ai.umate.ime).

Full Access, typing, and clipboard

Allow Full Access lets the Host and keyboard share recording status and lets the keyboard read and write the system pasteboard while it is open.

uMate does not upload what you type. Pasteboard captures stay on this device. They are not Voice Ledger and not iCloud. Snippets sync through iCloud when the Snippets switch is on (default on).

Optional transcript cleanup (third-party AI)

Cleanup is off until you add a provider and turn on Use for Cleanup. Then History cleanup and keyboard delivery send the current transcript text — not audio — to that provider.

Built-in Grok uses https://api.x.ai/v1. You may paste a custom HTTPS endpoint and API key. Credentials stay in the Host keychain on this device and are not synced. Provider names and settings without credentials can sync through iCloud.

Diagnostics and TestFlight

The in-app diagnostics export stays on this device. It is limited to allowlisted event codes and metadata, and must not contain audio, transcript text, clipboard text, credentials, or device identifiers.

If you install a beta through TestFlight, Apple may also send crash logs and usage information to the developer under Apple’s TestFlight terms. That is separate from uMate’s own diagnostics export.

What we do not do

We do not sell personal data. We do not use collected data for tracking or advertising. Typing and on-device voice input do not require a uMate account.

Retention, deletion, and permissions

Audio and local History stay on this device until you delete them in History or remove the app. Deleting a History item removes the local copy. If iCloud History sync already copied that transcript, the iCloud copy follows your Apple ID / iCloud settings.

Turning off iCloud for uMate in system Settings stops new transport. It does not by itself delete copies already in iCloud.

Microphone: recording after you tap Record. Speech recognition: on-device transcription. Full Access: Host/keyboard coordination and clipboard. It does not grant the keyboard microphone access.

Children and changes

uMate is not directed at children and does not offer a child account. This page will show a new date when the policy changes.
